“The Calendar”
Early automotive wall calendars, though
not exactly unique, became part of the American culture just after
the end of World War II. Many were functionally designed to be hung
in the cab of a delivery driver’s truck or on a shop wall for
scheduling. However, it was the allure of the great Hollywood movie
studios that influenced calendar producers to marry the curvaceous
beauty of an automobile with that of the female figure. In 1949 the
British automobile company, Leyland, introduced a corporate calendar
depicting a female model named Norma Jean Baker, who later became
known as Marilyn Monroe, and eight million copies later, the
automotive calendar was born.
Since that time, many automotive
calendars have come and gone, but “The Calendar”, as ours has
become known, is a tradition in the automotive industry. Rare copies
of our original paper calendar offerings are considered prized
possessions by those lucky enough to own them. Despite the evolution
of society and the cultural correctness of corporate entities, “The
Calendar” has survived by being a testament to man’s appreciation
of beauty. Each calendar is carefully selected based on the quality
of the photography and the style of the imagery. Furthermore, the
dignity of the viewer is always kept in perspective and nudity is never allowed.
Collectors and automotive enthusiasts
alike eagerly await the introduction of each new year’s calendar.
Though “The Calendar” cannot be bought; it is now brought to you
through the power of the Internet. In addition, for those of you
interested in a calendar, but would prefer one that does not contain what has become
known as nostalgic automotive art, you may use one of the
tools provided to select alternative images.
